Data-driven predictive maintenance with the use of statistical and machine learning methods to optimize spare parts management

Spare parts management is an important task for manufacturing companies in order to ensure lasting customer satisfaction and sustainable use of their products. Vorwerk International & Co. KmG would like to optimize its spare parts management based on data with the help of modern data-driven methods. Historical spare parts deliveries and product sales are to be analysed together using statistical methods and artificial intelligence. Time series forecasting as well as time-to-event analysis and joint and causal learning may also be used to forecast future demand for spare parts and provide a comprehensive assessment of product service life and the causes of defects.

The models developed are to be tested as prototypes at Vorwerk International and Vorwerk Germany in Switzerland and Germany.

Doctoral supervisor and first supervisor is Prof. Dr. Markus Pauly, Chair of Mathematical Statistics and Industrial Application at TU Dortmund University.
